Ballerina, the latest John Wick spin-off, is at an all-time high with its release just a week away on June 6. Starring Ana de Armas as the fierce Eve Macarro, the film has already gotten fans talking, especially after its world premiere in London earlier this month. But the big question on everyone’s mind is: will de Armas return to the John Wick universe after Ballerina? She recently opened up about the possibility, and I’m here to break it all down for you.

Ballerina dives into Eve’s origin story, set between John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and Chapter 4. Eve, a ballerina turned assassin, is on a mission to avenge her father’s death while training in the deadly traditions of the Ruska Roma. The film brings back familiar faces like Keanu Reeves as John Wick, Ian McShane as Winston, and the late Lance Reddick as Charon, alongside new stars like Norman Reedus and Gabriel Byrne. It’s a high-octane addition to the franchise, with early reactions calling it “absolute mayhem” and praising de Armas for her badass performance.

So, what does de Armas think about coming back for more? In a recent chat with The Direct, she didn’t hold back her excitement about possibly joining John Wick: Chapter 5, which Lionsgate confirmed at CinemaCon 2025 is in development with Reeves returning. “That would be really cool. I would love that. Why not?” she said, pointing out that Eve and John Wick already know each other in the story. It makes sense—trailers for Ballerina show the two in direct combat, and since both characters survive the film, a reunion in Chapter 5 feels like a natural next step.

De Armas’ enthusiasm isn’t just talk. Producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road have hinted at a sequel to Ballerina itself, with de Armas returning as Eve. In a 2023 interview, producer Erica Lee mentioned that the studio has plans to develop a follow-up, which could mean more of Eve’s story even before Chapter 5. And let’s be real—Eve’s journey in Ballerina sets her up perfectly to either team up with John Wick or become a rival, given their shared ties to the Ruska Roma and the criminal underworld.

But here’s the thing: de Armas has been down this road before with action roles. Back in 2023, she told Vanity Fair that Ballerina might be her last action gig for a while, saying she was “craving a wave of Blonde-type films” and wanted to focus on character-driven work with specific directors. She later clarified that while she loved the action genre, she was excited to explore other things. Fast forward to now, and it seems like she’s warmed up to the idea of sticking with the John Wick world—maybe the thrill of playing Eve has changed her mind.

The action in Ballerina definitely pushed her limits. She’s talked about the intense training, spending 3-4 months with the stunt team, 4-5 hours a day, plus time at the shooting range. At CinemaCon 2025, she shared how they had to put spikes in her shoes to keep her grounded on icy Prague streets during filming. And the fight scenes? Fans are raving about sequences like one where Eve smashes plates into another woman’s face in a kitchen brawl. It’s clear de Armas has fully embraced the physicality of the role, which might make her more open to returning.

On the flip side, de Armas has always been about balance in her career. After Ballerina wrapped and she got her Oscar nod for Blonde, she took a break to regroup in Vermont, as she told WWD earlier this week. She wanted to figure out what’s next, not just jump into another project. She’s already working on new films like Eden with Ron Howard and has a few projects in the works with Tom Cruise, who recently called Ballerina a film that “kicks ass” at the London premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

So, will she return? It’s looking likely, but nothing’s set in stone. De Armas seems genuinely excited about the idea, and with Chapter 5 on the horizon and a potential Ballerina sequel, there’s plenty of room for Eve to come back. For now, fans can catch her in action next week when Ballerina hits theaters. I’ll be there to see Eve Macarro take on the John Wick universe—and I’m already hoping for more!
